It Starts with Scouts!
Scouts Canada provides a great program for boys & girls between the ages of 5 to 26. There are sections set up for the different age groups to challenge the youth to do the best they can along with learning to be leaders in society. Please see below for the different sections.
The 207 St. Patrick's Scout Group is committed to providing quality programs full of outdoor adventures, hands-on skill development, personal growth and, of course, fun and friendship for youth participants and adults volunteers.
We welcome participants and volunteers living in the southwest Calgary communities of Shawnessy, Millrise and Evergreen, and in the surrounding areas.
Our formal programs include (click section title for more information):
Ages: 5 - 7 years
Meetings: Thursdays - 6 - 7 pm
Location: Shawnessy Barn
Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver Scout program. Through an adventurous program of outdoor activities, creative play, music, and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends (and meet new ones), learn how to get along within a group, and develop the confidence to be themselves.
Beaver Scouts share many outdoor adventures with their friends in the colony. Nature walks, short hikes, tree plantings and family sleepovers give Beaver Scouts a taste of outdoor fun. Through these activities, Beaver Scouts develop an appreciation and a sense of caring for the environment.
Beaver Scouts are a vital part of the community, country and world in which they live. Visits to parks, power plants, fire and police stations thrill young Beaver Scouts and illustrate the many important facets of their community.
Ages: 8 - 10 years
Meetings: Thursdays - 6:30 - 8 pm
Location: St. Patrick's Church
Challenging hikes, weekend camps, and an introduction to water activities like canoeing or kayaking are just a few of the fun outdoor adventures that Cub Scouts enjoy.
With the Cub Scout motto of "Do Your Best" front and centre, Cub Scouts are encouraged to try new and more challenging activities. Learning important first aid skills, paddling a canoe for the first time, or leading a game at camp will open the door for Cub Scouts to try other adventures they never thought possible.
Cub Scouts also experience an exciting variety of other activities: games and sports, model-building, music, story-telling and play-acting. And like Beavers Scouts, Cub Scouts enjoy their adventures with their friends.
Ages: 11 - 14 years
Meetings: Thursdays - 7:15 - 9 pm
Location: Shawnessy Barn
Enjoy mountain biking, rock-climbing, canoeing, kayaking, extended hikes and lots of camping. These are just a few of the adventures you'll tackle in Scouting.
You'll enjoy your outdoor adventures as part of a team, working together with other young people to accomplish thrilling challenges.
Scouting gives every member a chance to be a leader. It might involve running an activity, organizing a camp, or participating with other young people across your province or Canada in a youth forum.
Scouts meet in a group called a troop. The troop is split into smaller groups called patrols. There is one leader for every six Scouts. Each Scout learns a promise, law and motto to help guide their personal development.

The outdoors is an essential part of the Rover program. Rovers often participate in adventurous activities like mountain climbing, or white water rafting.
Rovers also help their local communities by running service activities such as food drives, park clean-ups, and tree plantings.
Rovers meet in a group called a crew. Rovers develop and manage their own program under the mentorship of a respected advisor. Rovers adhere to a promise and motto.
Adult volunteers provide essential service for all age-groups as scouters, parent-helpers and in other support roles. Without them, our programs would not run.
Older youth may also choose to help by volunteering in a leadership role.
The time commitment for a scouter can vary depending on the section as older youth will do more activities and camping, and younger youth will do some camping and more single day outdoor activities.
- Weekly meeting - 1 to 2 hours
- Section program planning meetings - 2 to 3 meetings per year, usually 1 to 2 hours

- Outdoor Activities - varies though we strive for at least one activity every two months (camping counts as an outdoor activity)
