Uniforms, handbooks and dues

For uniforms and handbooks, please visit the Scout Shop at 2140 Brownsea Drive NW (MAP). You can find hours and phone at their website.

Our sections decide to have dues each week, which will be decided at the beginning of the year. We strongly suggest the youth does something to help their family to earn their dues. The youth will, as a group, will decide what they want to use the monies they raise. Most times they will use it towards their year end party or sometimes, they will donate it to a charity.

No one will ever be turned away from Scouting due to finical concerns. If you require assistance to cover part or all of registration fees and/or uniforms, please contact the group commissioner, who will provide assistance privately.

Annual Budget and Fundraising

On average it costs approximately $20,000 to run the quality programs that our youth enjoy. This includes rental for our meeting halls, purchasing & maintaining equipment, training scouters and misc. group administration costs. We charge a group fee of $35 (reduced to $25 as of January 1, 2017) as part of the registration fee, which is the only portion that is kept by the group to help cover our costs. The other part of the registration fee goes directly to Scouts Canada & Chinook Council (goes to help pay for insurance and national/council level buildings and staff).

So in order to keep activity fees as low as possible while still meeting group expenses, we depend on all of our families to help with fundraising. Our group holds three major fundraisers each year: two bottle drives, one in the fall and one in the winter and Scout Popcorn in October.

During the registration process, parents will need to provide three post dated cheques for $50 each, dated Oct 31, 2016, Nov 30, 2016 and Mar 31, 2017. If a youth does not participate in the bottle drives or sells $100 worth of popcorn, the fundraising cheque for that fundraiser will be cashed on the date listed above.
